Virus signatures that you typed in to update version 2.0 of Central Point Anti-Virus are not supported by version 3.0. MacTools 3.0 contains all current virus signatures. New virus signatures will be shipped in 3.0 format.
CP DiskEdit and CP Mirror Control Panel are no longer a part of MacTools. CP Mirror has been replaced by CP TrashBack which makes recovering deleted files easier and more reliable. Additionally, CP Anti-Virus provides protection against accidentally formatting hard disks.
If you are using System 7.1 and cannot fit everything you need on the DiskFix emergency disk or Optimizer startup disk, you might have extra System enablers on your system. Use the following list to determine which enabler you need for the Macintosh you have, move the ones you don't need out of your System folder, and build the disk again.

Changes to the Manual
=========================
The following changes were made after the manual went to press.
When you use a differential backup for the first time, CP Backup automatically creates a new set.
CP Optimizer
===========
CP Optimizer will report a “-78” error if you have more than 60 files open on the startup disk. This may be due to many open font files in System 7.1. You can boot from the Optimizer floppy disk, or temporarily remove the font files to work around this error.
CP Optimizer may incorrectly report catalog problems if TrashBack is installed and turned on. Turn off TrashBack using CP Undelete before using CP Optimizer, or boot from the Optimizer floppy disk.
CP Backup
========
Once the Setup files are saved, any new changes saved to the Full Setup file do not affect the Changed Setup File and vice versa. Therefore, it is important to save the initial volume Overwrite option as “Use Available Space.” This will prevent the changed backup from overwriting the full backup set.
For example, if you were to save a new Setup File with Delete All Files as the Volume Overwrite Option and the destination volume is set to a Tape drive, and then change the Volume Overwrite Option to Use Available Space and save again, the Changed Files Volume Overwrite Options are still set to Delete All Files. If you then scheduled both setup files to run consecutively, the Full backup would use available space on tape, but the Changed backup that followed it would delete the Full backup.
Instead, save the initial Setup with Volume Overwrite Options set to Use Available Space. Then if you wish your Full backup to delete all files, select that option and save again. The Full backup will erase the tape and the Incremental backup will be added to the tape without deleting any files.
CP Anti-Virus Application
===================
By default, CP Installer does not install the StuffIt Engine which is required by CP Anti-Virus Application to scan StuffIt compressed files for viruses. If you do not already have a file named StuffIt Engine in your extensions folder, you will need to install it from the MacTools install set.
CP TrashBack
===========
Files on your hard disk deleted by a remote user via File Sharing will not be protected by CP TrashBack. Files deleted locally are protected by CP TrashBack regardless of File Sharing being on or off.
File-Compression Programs
=========================
You must load Now Compress before you load TrashBack to avoid problems mounting network drives.
If you used DiskDoubler to compress Word or Excel files, decompress the files before using FileFix to extract data from them.
Unlike other disk-analysis applications, DiskFix can check bundle bits in files that were compressed with DiskDoubler or AutoDoubler. Disk analysis is faster if the files were compressed using the AutoDoubler format.
Central Point Backup reports that backed-up files do not compare with the original files when the following scenario occurs:
- compress the original files with AutoDoubler,
- turn on the Compress backup data option in Central Point Backup,
- and configure AutoDoubler to allow compressed files to be backed up in their compressed format.
However, the files are backed up properly and can be compared properly if you restore them to a different destination (for example, another disk).
Files compressed with StuffIt SpaceSaver expand when MacTools checks them for viruses or bundle bit problems. Files compressed with other compression programs such as DiskDoubler, AutoDoubler, or Now Compress do not expand when checked.
Now Compress keeps open files on all mounted disks. This can prevent DiskFix from performing certain repairs on disks. To repair these disks, run DiskFix from the emergency disk, or disable Now Compress at startup.
Compatibility Issues
===================
SoundMaster
-----------
If you use SoundMaster, make sure it is the most current version (1.7.3 or newer). You might still experience problems with SoundMaster, especially when using sounds that require a large amount of RAM. If you have less than 3 MB of RAM, consider changing SoundMaster's name so it loads after all other control panels. Since control panels load in alphabetical order, you might want to add a “z” to the beginning of the name (“zSoundMaster”) so it loads last.
Scroll2
-------
The Scroll2 control panel randomly moves the displayed location of the scroll bar arrows in Central Point Anti-Virus Control Panel help windows. To scroll a window, click where the scroll bar arrows would normally appear.
Menu Choice 1.6
--------------
If you have MenuChoice and CP TrashBack loaded and have a sound file in the Startup Items folder, the Finder may not redraw menus correctly. Remove either the sound file or Menu Choice to avoid this problem.
COPYright
--------------
If CP TrashBack is protecting a number of large files, you may get a Disk Full message when you are copying files using COPYright or COPYright Pro. You can use the Empty TrashBack Folder option in CP Undelete to purge the files and allow COPYright to continue copying.
